Reusable Coil Carrier, Fully Compliant

The Reusable Steel Coil Carrier.
Any Flat Trailer Becomes a Coil Trailer.

A removable, stackable steel transport cradle system that converts a standard flat deck into a coil-carrying arrangement — deep fabricated V-sections, substantial side plates, fork pockets and integrated restraint hardware, engineered and fabricated to EN1090 EX2 by Marmion Engineering in Co. Louth.

LOAD RESTRAINT CERTIFIED

Our commitment to safety begins with compliance. Each Coil Carrier is EN 12195 load-restraint certified, CE/UKCA marked, and built for trusted performance in steel transport.

Safety & Compliance (Trust First)

Engineered for Reliability:
— Coil Carrier Fully Compliant

Up to 25% of truck accidents are linked to unsecured loads . Our engineered carrier virtually eliminates coil load shift risk.

DRG-CC-01 / Cross Section

How the Load Actually Travels

The carrier receives the full coil load through its V-sections and side plates, and transfers it safely into the trailer deck and chassis — which carries it to the axles. A 25-tonne coil is roughly 245 kN of static weight before dynamic transport loads, restraint forces and safety factors are considered. That’s why this is a fabricated structure, not a bent-plate cradle.

The Dimensions, Straight Off the Workshop Drawing

Redrawn to drawing-sheet standard from Eddie’s workshop sketch and product photographs — front face profile and side elevation, all dimensions in millimetres. The W-profile carries the coil on its protected seat faces — the only surfaces the coil touches, so coil edges and painted faces stay unmarked. Fork openings give access from both sides, loaded or empty; the end blocks locate the next unit when stacked.

The clarified overall carrier dimension is 3253 mm. The drawing uses the readable 415 mm height, 720 mm central span, 325 mm central crown, 390 mm lower flats, 205 mm lower bearing level and 190 mm opening. The side-view figures 330, 90, 810, 90, 815, 90 and 325 are retained as local dimensions only because they total 2550 mm and therefore cannot, as written, represent the complete 3253 mm overall chain. Unnumbered minor details are positioned from the photograph/sketch and should not be treated as certified fabrication dimensions.

Key dimensions: 3,253 mm overall length · 415 mm body height · 720 mm central span with 325 mm crown flat · 390 mm coil-bearing flats at 205 mm bearing level · 190 mm fork openings · 150 mm end blocks. Built Into Every Unit

Industrial Transport System, Not a Light-Duty Cradle

Deep Fabricated V-Sections

Profiled to seat coils from Ø 800 to Ø 2,000 mm with a low centre of gravity and full-width contact — no point loading on the coil face.

Substantial Side Plates

Heavy side plates carry the lateral loads and frame the restraint hardware — the structure does the work, not the straps alone.

Fork Pockets

Positioned for safe forklift handling of the carrier, loaded or empty — no chains, no improvised lifting.

Locating & Restraint Hardware

Integrated locating and tie-down points designed around EN 12195 load-restraint practice, so lashing is repeatable, not reinvented per load.

Stackable Design

Empty units stack for the return leg and yard storage — a full set travels back as one footprint instead of a deck of loose cradles.

Protected Steel

Fabricated in heavy-duty steel with protective coating, built for years of mill, port and trailer duty — one carrier replaces hundreds of single-use timber cradles.

Removable & Portable

A Removable Coil Carrier, Not a Committed Trailer

This is a portable coil carrier in the truest sense: forklift it onto any flat or curtainside deck in minutes, and lift it back off the moment the coil work is done. No welding, no deck modification, no trailer married to coil duty for life.

That mobility changes the economics. The same carrier moves between trailers, depots and even hauliers as the work demands — and when a unit isn’t needed, it stacks in the corner of the yard instead of parking a six-figure asset against the fence.

Fleet Flexibility

Every Flat Deck in Your Fleet Becomes a Coil Deck

Coil work is lumpy — heavy some weeks, gone the next. Dedicated coil trailers force you to size the fleet for the peak. A set of removable carriers lets you size for the average: win a coil contract on Monday, equip three ordinary flats by Tuesday, and backload general freight on the return leg once the carriers are stacked. Nothing dedicated, nothing idle.

Coil Carrier vs Coil Liner

Do You Really Need a Coil Liner Trailer?

A coil liner — the purpose-built coil trailer with a coil well in the chassis — is a serious piece of kit, engineered for very heavy concentrated loads. If you run coils every day, both ways, a coil liner earns its keep.

But most operators don’t. For everyone else, the coil liner has three problems: it’s a major capital commitment; it’s a compromised trailer for everything that isn’t a coil; and when coil volumes dip, it sits. The Marmion Coil Carrier is the coil liner alternative — the coil-carrying geometry without the dedicated chassis. You get the deep V-seat, the low centre of gravity and the engineered restraint interface, on the flat trailers you already own, at a fraction of the cost of one dedicated trailer. Run coils when there are coils; run freight when there aren’t.

One Simple System

From Mill to Port in Four Moves

01 · Position

Forklift the carrier onto any standard flat deck and locate it against the trailer's restraint arrangement.

02 · Load

Crane or forklift the coil into the V — the profile centres it automatically and keeps the centre of gravity low.

03 · Restrain

Lash coil and carrier using the integrated tie-down points, following the approved load-restraint arrangement.

04 · Return & Repeat

Deliver, unload, stack the empties, send them home. From mill to port and back — for years.

Unsecured Loads Are the Industry's Open Secret

Up to 25% of truck accidents are linked to unsecured loads — and a shifting steel coil is about the worst version of that problem. The Coil Carrier attacks it structurally: the V-profile centres the coil, the low centre of gravity calms the trailer, and the integrated restraint points make correct EN 12195-style lashing the easy option rather than the careful one. Your drivers stop improvising with timber and hope.

The Business Case

Save Costs. Cut Waste. Protect the Planet.

Single-use timber cradles are a recurring cost that ends up in a skip. One Coil Carrier replaces hundreds of them per year, cuts loading time with a repeatable arrangement, protects coil faces from point damage, and comes home stacked four-high for the next run. It pays for itself in dunnage, damage claims and loading minutes.

The system is engineered for coils up to 25 tonnes, subject to carrier specification, trailer configuration, axle loading and the approved load-restraint arrangement. The rated capacity for your configuration is confirmed with engineering documentation at purchase.

Coils from Ø 800 mm to Ø 2,000 mm in diameter. The V-profile centres the coil across that range; tell us your typical coil mix and we'll confirm fit.

Completely. It forklifts on and off any flat deck in minutes — no welding, no deck modification, no dedicated trailer. Move it between trailers, depots or hauliers as the work demands, and stack it away when it's not needed.

No — a coil liner is a dedicated trailer with a coil well built into the chassis. The Marmion Coil Carrier is the coil liner alternative: it gives an ordinary flat trailer the same coil-carrying geometry, removably, at a fraction of the cost — so your trailers stay general-purpose the rest of the week.

Yes — that's the point. The carrier converts a normal flat deck into a coil-carrying arrangement. Positioning and restraint are agreed against your trailer configuration.

They stack — the end feet locate the next unit. Empties nest into a compact footprint for the return leg or yard storage, so the economics work in both directions.

Carriers are fabricated under our EN1090 EX2 certification, with restraint points designed around EN 12195 load-restraint practice. Capacity and load-restraint documentation for your specific configuration are provided and confirmed at purchase.
